Datapacks
Add custom recipes, loot, world generation, and more — no mods required.
What are datapacks?
Datapacks are Minecraft's built-in way to customize gameplay without installing mods. Players don't need to install anything on their end — everything runs server-side.
They can:
- Add or change crafting recipes (e.g. craftable elytra)
- Modify loot tables (what mobs drop, what's in chests)
- Change world generation (custom biomes, structures, terrain)
- Add advancements and in-game challenges
- Run command functions (automated scripts)
- Customize the Nether and End dimensions separately
Where to find datapacks
Download the .zip file for any pack you want. Make sure it's compatible with Minecraft 1.21 (pack format 48).
Adding datapacks during setup
On the configure page, use the Datapacks section to upload your .zip files. You can add as many as you want. They'll be installed in your world's datapacks/ folder when the server starts.
Things to know
- World generation changes (custom biomes, structures) only affect newly generated chunks. Already-explored terrain won't change.
- Recipe and loot changes apply immediately and can be reloaded in-game with
/reload. - If you're uploading a world that already has datapacks, your uploaded packs will be added alongside them — nothing gets overwritten.
- After a world regeneration, your configured datapacks are automatically re-applied.
Good to know: - Max 50 MB per datapack
- Only
.zip files are accepted - Must be compatible with Minecraft 1.21.x (pack format 48)
- Datapacks are Java Edition only — Bedrock players on your server still benefit from them since the server runs Java
